Firefighters are trying to put out the Amazon fire

Firefighters in the Brazilian Amazon are battling one of the worst wildfires in 20 years. According to government satellite data, global warming has led to record-breaking drought and the resulting wildfires.

The fires could be a tough test for President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva because of his reputation as an environmentalist worldwide. Brazil will host the UN COP30 climate summit next year. (Reuters)
