The European Union has invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to participate in the third edition of the Global Gateway Forum 2027 and deliver the keynote address, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between Bangladesh and the EU.
The invitation was conveyed by the Ambassador of the European Union to Bangladesh, H.E. Michael Miller, during a meeting with the Foreign Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Monday.
During the meeting, Ambassador Miller handed over an invitation letter from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to the Prime Minister for attending the Global Gateway Forum, scheduled for June 2027. The visit is also expected to include a bilateral meeting between the Prime Minister and the President of the European Commission.
According to officials, the Prime Minister’s participation in the forum is expected to open new avenues for investment under the EU’s Global Gateway Initiative, particularly in sustainable infrastructure, digitalisation, energy, transport, healthcare and education.
The Ambassador also presented a congratulatory letter from EU Vice-President Kaja Kallas to the Foreign Minister on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The two sides reviewed the full spectrum of Bangladesh-EU relations and explored ways to further expand cooperation in business, trade and investment, technology, as well as regional and multilateral affairs.
Discussions also covered the proposed Bangladesh-EU Business Forum 2027, upcoming high-level engagements, prospects for a Bangladesh-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and several other issues of mutual interest.
They further exchanged views on regional and global developments, including matters related to the United Nations and the ongoing Rohingya crisis.
Both Bangladesh and the European Union reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening their longstanding partnership and expanding cooperation for mutual benefit.
