Following special directives from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the Department of Environment (DoE) conducted a nationwide integrated mobile court operation today, August 12, 2025, taking strict measures against noise pollution, black smoke, air pollution, and the use of banned polythene.
Under the Noise Pollution Control Rules 2006, four mobile courts in Rajbari, Kurigram, Manikganj, and Gazipur fined 16 cases a total of BDT 34,500 and confiscated 33 hydraulic horns. In Dhaka’s Shyamoli area, one operation to control black smoke from vehicles resulted in six cases being fined BDT 23,000, and several drivers were warned.
Pursuant to the Air Pollution Control Rules 2022, two cases in Kurigram and Dhaka’s Aftabnagar were fined BDT 6,500 for air pollution caused by construction materials. They were immediately ordered to remove the polluting materials. Furthermore, under the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, three operations in Chittagong, Bandarban, and Dhaka’s Chawkbazar Imamganj area targeted the production, sale, supply, and marketing of banned polythene. This resulted in two cases being fined BDT 12,000 and the seizure of 205 kg of polythene.
In addition, relevant shop owners, supermarkets, and the general public were given cautionary messages and leaflets to raise awareness about the harmful effects of banned polythene. The Department of Environment stated that these types of operations will continue in the future.
