The Trump administration is planning to impose a travel ban on 41 countries in the world to the United States. This news was published citing sources familiar with the matter and an internal memo obtained by the news agency Reuters.
According to media reports, at least 10 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Cuba and North Korea, are going to be subject to full bans.
The report said that the countries facing the second or partial ban are Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar and South Sudan. In the case of countries in this group, there will be restrictions on travel and student visas as well as other immigrant visas. However, there will be some exceptions.
The third group on the list includes 26 countries. These countries include Belarus, Pakistan and Turkmenistan, a total of 26 countries. The US visas of citizens of these countries may be partially suspended. However, if the countries take effective measures to address the flaws in the visa screening process within 60 days, the ban will be reconsidered.
A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the list could change. It has not yet been approved at the highest levels of the US administration. It also requires the consent of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The US State Department has not made any official comment on the matter.
US President Trump issued a travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries in 2017 during his first term. After several amendments, it was approved by the country’s Supreme Court in 2018. He announced the implementation of a tough immigration policy soon after the start of his second term.
