China’s First Space-Themed IMAX Documentary Premieres in London

London, September 19 : China’s first space-themed IMAX documentary, Shenzhou-13, had its international premiere in London at a special reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy. Produced by China Media Group, the screening was part of the celebrations marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The event drew more than 400 guests, including ambassadors, dignitaries from various sectors in the UK, overseas Chinese communities, and foreign friends of Chinese heritage.

Shenzhou-13 offers a rare glimpse into the lives of Chinese astronauts Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping, and Ye Guangfu during their six-month mission aboard the Chinese space station. Filmed from the astronauts’ own perspective, the documentary captures breathtaking views of the universe while portraying the challenges and routines of daily life in orbit. Employing advanced domestic ultra-high-definition film technology, the documentary blends scientific exploration with human emotion, paying tribute to China’s remarkable achievements in space exploration.

Wang Qi, Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, addressed the audience at the reception. He emphasized that technological and green innovations are driving China’s new development momentum, highlighting broad prospects for China-UK cooperation in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and new-energy vehicles.

As the first Chinese space documentary to be released internationally, Shenzhou-13 captured significant attention from attendees, serving as a new bridge for cultural and scientific exchange between China and the United Kingdom. To commemorate the premiere, a “Memory Wall” was set up for guests to sign their names and share their hopes for stronger collaboration between the two countries in science and culture to build a brighter future together.
