China renames 27 places in Arunachal

China has renamed 27 places in Arunachal. India has reacted strongly to this renaming incident. The country has said that Arunachal was, is and will remain an integral part of India. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also commented that China’s ‘futile and unreasonable’ efforts will not change the reality.

On May 11, China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs renamed 27 places in Arunachal. These include 15 mountains, four roads, two rivers, a lake and five settlements.

Indian media Hindustan Times reported that China has renamed places in Arunachal for the fifth time. Meanwhile, Beijing has renamed places in Arunachal for the first time since the two countries signed an agreement to withdraw troops from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in October last year.

China calls Arunachal Pradesh ‘Zangnan’. China claims that Arunachal is part of southern Tibet. Since 2017, they have started renaming various places in Arunachal. Of these, they have renamed six places in 2017, 15 in 2021 and 2023, and another 30 places by March 2024.

In 2020, there was a bloody clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley without weapons. At that time, 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers were killed. After that, diplomatic relations between the two countries hit rock bottom. In the recent clash between India and Pakistan using missiles and drones, China helped Pakistan.
