Beijing, Oct 13- Chinese President Xi Jinping inaugurated the World Women’s Summit at the National Convention Center in Beijing, calling for renewed global efforts to advance women’s comprehensive development and gender equality.
In his keynote address titled “Carrying Forward the Spirit of the Beijing World Conference on Women and Accelerating a New Process for Women’s Development,” Xi emphasized that women are “creators, motivators, and carriers of human civilization,” and that their advancement is a shared responsibility of the international community.
Highlighting progress since the landmark 1995 Beijing World Conference on Women, Xi noted that women’s empowerment has become a global consensus, yet challenges remain. He proposed four key initiatives — creating a safe environment for women’s growth, fostering innovation-driven development, strengthening legal and social protections, and enhancing international cooperation for women’s progress.
Xi announced that China will donate $10 million to UN Women, allocate $100 million from the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund for women’s projects, and invite 50,000 women worldwide for training and exchanges.
Leaders from Iceland, Ghana, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, and UN officials praised China’s role in promoting women’s rights and hailed the summit as a milestone for global gender equality.
