The San Francisco Police Department said that some individuals became violent on Sunday evening and began criminal activities ranging from assault to serious vandalism and property damage. In response, police declared an unlawful assembly in a certain area.

Police also said that although many left the scene, several individuals remained and continued illegal activities. Including vandalizing buildings and a patrol car. Two officers were treated for minor injuries in the incident. Another officer was admitted to a local hospital.

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie issued a statement in response to the incident. “Everyone has the right to peacefully express their opinions, but we will never tolerate violent and destructive behavior,” he said. Lurie added that the protests have now stopped. He specifically noted that the attempt to target members of our immigrant community, who contribute to our city, support our economy and raise their families here, makes our city less safe.
