The Bangladesh Police is set to introduce a newly designed iron-gray uniform for its members starting November 15, marking a major step in the force’s modernization and image enhancement efforts.
In the first phase, the new attire will be worn by personnel of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), and specialized units such as the Highway Police, River Police, and Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
In an official statement, Assistant Inspector General (Media) A.H.M. Shahadat Hossain said the redesigned uniform aims to reflect the police force’s modern, professional, and accountable image. “The new iron-colored uniform with a distinct design will be distributed by November 15. Initially, officers of metropolitan and specialized units will begin wearing it, followed by distribution to members in range and district levels,” he added.
Earlier this year, on January 20, the government approved a plan to change the uniform colors of the Bangladesh Police, Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The decision came as part of a broader institutional reform and modernization initiative undertaken after the July mass uprising.
Officials said the introduction of the new police uniform is intended to symbolize professionalism, transparency, and a citizen-oriented approach, while also showcasing the force’s modern and humane identity as a key law enforcement agency.
