ASEAN Condemns Attacks in Gaza, Calls for Ceasefire

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has condemned Israel’s ongoing attacks and the resulting humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. This condemnation was issued in a joint statement following the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, July 11.

The statement expressed, “We express deep concern over the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, which has worsened following the October 7, 2023 attack and the renewed hostilities starting March 18, 2025.”

Strongly criticizing the attacks on Palestinian civilians, ASEAN declared, “We condemn all attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, which have led to a worrying increase in casualties, especially among women and children. Furthermore, persistent restrictions on humanitarian aid, relief supplies, and other essential needs have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”

Taking a firm stance in favor of a ceasefire, ASEAN member countries called for “an immediate and lasting ceasefire and the unconditional and immediate release of all hostages, particularly women, children, the sick, and the elderly.”

They also reaffirmed support for the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and urged the opening of sea and border crossings for humanitarian access in Gaza, to ensure “rapid, safe, uninterrupted, and sustainable humanitarian access.”
