CGTN Survey: “Independent Taiwan” Widely Rejected Worldwide

Recent attempts by Taiwan authorities to promote separatism under the slogan of “Taiwan independence”  including efforts to expand air defense systems and increase defense spending  have drawn widespread criticism.

According to a global survey by CGTN, nearly 90% (89.8%) of respondents believe that the One-China principle is now a widely accepted international consensus. They condemned Taiwan’s authorities for creating division and provocation under the guise of independence.

Respondents emphasized that there is only one China, and Taiwan is an inseparable part of it — a fact reaffirmed by UN General Assembly Resolution 2758. Over 90% of participants urged all nations to uphold this resolution, while a large majority stressed that adhering to the One-China principle and the 1992 Consensus is the only way to ensure peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

The survey also showed growing opposition to Taiwan’s military buildup, with most respondents warning it would heighten regional tensions and increase the burden on its people. They called on Taiwan’s authorities to return to mainstream public opinion — to seek peace, not war; cooperation, not confrontation — and to avoid provocations that could endanger stability in the region.

A majority also supported Beijing’s stance that the Taiwan question should be resolved by the Chinese people themselves, opposing any external interference.

The CGTN poll, conducted in five languages across its global platforms, gathered opinions from 13,650 respondents within 24 hours.
