President Abbas to Attend Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will attend the Gaza Peace Summit scheduled to be held in Egypt on Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron has confirmed.

The summit will be co-chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, with discussions focusing on the Gaza ceasefire, the release of Palestinian prisoners, and the return of Israeli hostages. More than 20 regional and international leaders are expected to participate in the high-level meeting.

However, both Israel and Hamas will not be sending representatives to the summit. The Gaza conflict erupted after Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, an event that further deepened the group’s rivalry with the Palestinian Authority led by Abbas.

President Macron stated, “The presence of the Palestinian Authority’s leadership at the summit will serve as recognition of their legitimacy and responsibility. We stand ready to support them in implementing the necessary reforms and providing the assistance they need.”
