UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on Tuesday that China’s series of global initiatives are fully consistent with the spirit of the United Nations Charter.
At a press briefing, Guterres noted that China’s initiatives respect multilateralism, uphold the central role of the UN as a multilateral body, and promote international cooperation as well as the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
He further said that next week’s high-level session of the 80th UN General Assembly will “open all possibilities for dialogue and coordination.” Nearly 150 heads of state and government are expected to attend the session. Guterres himself will participate in more than 150 bilateral meetings, using every opportunity to strengthen communication among world leaders, encourage direct dialogue, reduce divisions, ease crises, and seek constructive solutions.
