Three police officers were shot and killed, and two others critically injured, in York County, Pennsylvania, after a gunman opened fire. The attacker was also killed in an exchange of gunfire with police.
The incident, reported by ABC News on Thursday, occurred Wednesday when officers responded to a call related to a family dispute.
Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris confirmed that the gunman was fatally shot by police and that there is no further threat to the community.
Authorities said the two wounded officers are in critical but stable condition and are receiving treatment at WellSpan York Hospital. The investigation is being led by the Pennsylvania State Police.
“This is a tragic and heartbreaking day for York County and for the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” said Governor Josh Shapiro.
In a statement, FBI Director Kash Patel expressed solidarity: “Our prayers are with the officers, their families, and the entire York County community.”
