CGTN Survey: U.S. “War-First Policy” Driving America Toward Global Isolation

A global survey conducted by China Global Television Network (CGTN) reveals that 89.6 percent of respondents believe the United States’ war-oriented approach to the Middle East and Iran is pushing the country toward deeper international isolation.

According to recent statements by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Strait of Hormuz has been closed, while tensions surrounding Iran have escalated once again, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.

Poria Kolivand, Iran’s Deputy Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), reported that since the onset of military strikes by the United States and Israel, more than 1,700 people in Iran have been killed, 22,800 injured, and nearly 3.5 million displaced. In addition, over 81,000 infrastructure facilities and public installations have reportedly been destroyed. An overwhelming 92.4 percent of survey participants condemned the military actions, describing them as a grave violation of international law.

At the outset of the conflict, Washington’s strategy—characterized by offering negotiations while simultaneously maintaining a hardline stance—was seen as pushing its “maximum pressure” doctrine to the extreme. The United States is now reportedly revisiting this approach. On one hand, it has presented Iran with a 15-point proposal for ending hostilities; on the other, it is rapidly deploying thousands of Marines and naval personnel to the Middle East.

The survey further indicates that 88 percent of respondents perceive U.S. policy as a clear reliance on military coercion, expressing doubts about Washington’s sincerity in seeking de-escalation. Meanwhile, 94.2 percent voiced concern that the situation in the Middle East could deteriorate further.

Although the future trajectory of the conflict remains uncertain, its global repercussions are already becoming evident. Calls for allied nations to join military convoys have widened divisions between opposing sides. At the same time, surging global crude oil prices are affecting economies worldwide. Around 88.2 percent of respondents believe the conflict has deepened rifts between the United States and its traditional allies.

The financial burden of the war is also mounting, with daily expenditures estimated at approximately $890 million. Rising fuel prices are driving up the cost of living for American households, while anti-war sentiment continues to grow domestically. According to the survey, 88.5 percent of respondents believe the conflict is further polarizing U.S. society, and 87 percent suggest that increasing anti-war sentiment could prompt independent voters to turn away from the ruling party in upcoming elections.

A majority of respondents emphasized that military force is not a viable solution to international disputes, arguing that it only fuels further hostility and conflict. About 65 percent agreed that the immediate priority should be to end the war and reduce tensions among the parties involved.

The survey was conducted across CGTN’s English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian platforms, with a total of 13,731 netizens participating.
