A total of 90 Pakistani soldiers in a military convoy were killed in an attack by Baloch rebels on Sunday, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed.
However, a Pakistani police official said that only five paramilitary personnel were killed in the attack.
The BLA said that they had targeted a Pakistani military convoy with a suicide car bomb. The attack took place near Rokshan Mill, on the RCD Highway, in the Noshkir area.
The rebel group claimed that the convoy consisted of eight buses, one of which was completely destroyed in the explosion.
The BLA also said that they had systematically killed all the soldiers in the convoy, taking the total number of enemy casualties to 90.
“The convoy was heading towards the Taftan border with seven buses. An explosive-laden vehicle rammed into one of the buses near Noshki, causing a massive explosion,” police officer Mohammad Zafar told AFP.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti condemned the attack.
Earlier on Tuesday (March 12), an unprecedented hostage situation erupted near the Mashqaf Tunnel, 157 kilometers from Quetta. Members of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) attacked the Zafar Express train and took more than 450 passengers hostage.
The army also said that some of the dead insurgents were suicide bombers who were killed by snipers while they were sitting among the hostages.
