26 die of starvation in Gaza in 24 hours

At least 26 Palestinians have died of starvation and lack of medical care in the besieged Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, an international human rights organization said. Nine of them were children.

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said on Tuesday that the death rate among the elderly, the sick and children has increased dramatically. The death rate is increasing as Israel deliberately imposes a blockade aimed at weakening and harming the population of Gaza.

The Geneva-based organization said the conditions include the ongoing massive blockade, as well as deliberate starvation, severe suffering and systematic deprivation of medical care.

Euro-Med said that numerous deaths have been classified as natural causes due to the lack of robust monitoring systems by the Gaza Health Ministry. Although they could have been prevented.

The human rights organization’s field workers have recorded harrowing accounts in recent hours from elderly people who have been forcibly displaced and starving.

Euro-Med also warned that ongoing displacement due to intense bombardment is exacerbating the hunger crisis, with residents losing even the bare minimum of canned food.

It described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as catastrophic.
