Zelensky-Trump Meeting at the White House: Talks on Ukraine Peace Deal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at the White House on Monday for high-level discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump. The meeting focuses on a potential ceasefire with Russia and prospects for a peace agreement.

President Trump welcomed Zelensky at the White House. European leaders attending the discussions included European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and leaders from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Finland. While they expressed strong support for Ukraine, Trump suggested that Kyiv may need to make certain concessions.

Meanwhile, in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, at least seven people, including two children, were killed in Russian attacks, with air raid sirens sounding throughout the city.

Following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week, Trump announced that Ukraine would need to relinquish Crimea and abandon its NATO membership aspirations.

Before a private Oval Office meeting, Zelensky described the discussions as “extremely important and serious.” Trump commented, “It’s a big day here at the White House. I know exactly what needs to be done. People who have failed for years don’t need advice.”
