You and I, in Melancholy
⁃ Faruque Sayed,West Coast, Denmark.
You and I, in melancholy,
gather a few stones
here on this deserted shore,
pierced insistently by the wind,
enjoying the roar of the waves,
waiting for coffee in my mug,
taking in the freshness-
or is it simply that I am bold
In your presence;
seasoned with your naked smile,
against winter’s cold,
perhaps effortless for you
but for me, in need
of just a little more
in the fading winter sun!
The colors of winter
nature has long since collected-
perhaps storing them in a chest,
and you and I, in melancholy,
turn our faces homeward
toward fire in the wood-burning stove,
a warm cup of coffee or cocoa,
and a good book
or a game to play.
