Xi, Kim Hold Talks in Beijing

Chinese President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping met with Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday evening, September 5.

During the meeting, Xi stressed that the destinies of China and North Korea are closely linked, describing the two countries as good neighbors, friends, and comrades. He noted that the friendship between China and North Korea is longstanding, with both nations led by communist parties, sharing common aspirations and development goals.

Congratulating Kim on the 80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Xi highlighted that while China is advancing Chinese-style modernization and pursuing national rejuvenation, North Korea is also making progress in its socialist construction. Xi emphasized that China attaches great importance to its friendly ties with North Korea and remains committed to safeguarding and advancing bilateral relations. Regardless of how international circumstances evolve, he said, China’s position will not change. Beijing will continue to support Pyongyang in pursuing a development path suited to its own national realities.

Xi further stated that China is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges and strategic communication with North Korea, share governance and development experiences, deepen mutual understanding and friendship, expand exchanges at all levels, and promote practical cooperation across multiple fields.

Addressing global challenges, Xi said: “The world today faces unprecedented difficulties. I have successively put forward the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative, to which North Korea has responded positively. China and North Korea should step up strategic coordination on international and regional issues to safeguard our common interests. On the Korean Peninsula issue, China has always stood for fairness and justice. We are ready to strengthen coordination with North Korea to maintain peace and stability on the Peninsula.”

Kim Jong Un is visiting China to attend commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.
