Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday, March 23, inspected the Xiong’an New Area in Hebei Province, where he chaired a symposium on advancing high-quality construction and development and delivered an important address.
During the visit, President Xi fully recognized the phased achievements made in the development of Xiong’an New Area. He outlined the responsibilities, goals, and implementation roadmap for its future construction in the new era, providing strategic guidance and a solid foundation for promoting high-quality development in the region.
The Xiong’an New Area, described as a “millennium plan” and a major national initiative, has been personally planned, promoted, and overseen by President Xi. Over the past nine years, under his guidance, more than one trillion yuan has been invested in the area, with over 5,300 buildings constructed. Since 2023, 146 subsidiaries of central enterprises have been established there, along with more than 400 branches of various types. Since the launch of the “Millennium Forest” initiative in 2017, afforestation has covered approximately 483,000 mu, bringing the total green area to 743,000 mu and increasing forest coverage from 11 percent to 35.1 percent. These efforts are transforming Hebei into a modern, high-quality urban hub.
Xi’s speech, marked by long-term vision and strategic foresight, sets the direction for Xiong’an’s continued development while contributing to broader coordinated regional growth. He emphasized the importance of translating policy guidance into concrete actions, advancing the relocation of non-capital functions from Beijing, and strengthening policy support and services for resettlement and workforce integration.
He called for enhancing the area’s overall capacity through systematic planning, integrating high-quality construction with efficient governance. Efforts will focus on advancing key zones, including startup and initial development areas, while establishing the “Xiong’an standard” for quality. Reform and innovation were highlighted as the primary driving forces, with a strong push for the deep integration of scientific and industrial innovation.
Xi also stressed the need to develop “new quality productive forces” tailored to local conditions and to build a modern industrial system aligned with the region’s realities. He urged all stakeholders to faithfully implement the guiding principles of his speeches, strengthen a sense of responsibility, and ensure that development plans are carried through step by step.
By steadily translating blueprints into reality, Xiong’an New Area is expected to reach new heights in high-quality development, contributing significantly to the advancement of modernization with Chinese characteristics.
