China has urged the United States to fully recognize the extreme sensitivity of the Taiwan question, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press briefing in Beijing.
Referring to recent negative remarks by William Lai (Lai Ching-te) on the Taiwan Strait situation, Lin said certain U.S. media outlets have provided a platform for the leader of the Taiwan authorities to promote “unfounded separatist narratives.”
He stated that such actions seriously violate the one-China principle and the three China–U.S. joint communiqués, while sending a dangerous and misleading signal to “Taiwan independence” forces—something China firmly opposes.
Lin added that Lai’s conduct once again exposes his separatist nature and his “malicious scheme of seeking independence by relying on the United States.” This, he noted, proves that Lai is a “trouble-maker undermining peace and stability.”
He stressed that the United States must properly understand the high sensitivity of the Taiwan issue and honor the commitments made by its leaders. “Whatever William Lai says or does, his attempts are doomed to fail,” Lin asserted.
