Wenchang Achieves 10th Successful Launch of 2025 with Shijian-28 Satellite

China successfully launched the Shijian-28 satellite into its preset orbit on Sunday using a Long March-7A carrier rocket from the Wenchang Space Launch Center in Hainan. This marks the 10th launch from Wenchang in 2025 and the first time the center’s annual launch frequency has doubled.

Wenchang Space Launch Center is China’s first modern, eco-friendly spaceport that was independently designed and built. It currently operates two large, all-weather, multi-functional launch pads. Since its inaugural launch mission in 2016, the center has completed 43 space missions.

The “high-frequency launch schedule” reflects not only an increase in the number of missions, but also the innovative strategies and enhanced support capabilities of scientists and engineers at the center. Wang Yuliang of the Wenchang Space Launch Center noted, “The key to achieving high-frequency launches lies in reducing on-site turnaround time, often referred to as the rocket testing cycle.”

In recent years, through continuous scientific and technological innovation, Wenchang has steadily optimized key processes such as high-rate cryogenic propellant filling and kerosene–liquid nitrogen cooling. It has also resolved challenges related to parallel testing of large and medium cryogenic liquid rockets and single-station adaptability for multiple rocket launches.

Looking ahead, the Wenchang Space Launch Center is set to undertake several major national missions, including China’s crewed lunar program, heavy-lift rocket launches, and planetary exploration. Its annual launch count is expected to continue rising.
