The United States has updated its travel advisory for Bangladesh, lowering the country’s overall advisory level from Level 3 (“Reconsider Travel”) to Level 2 (“Exercise Increased Caution”), reflecting what it described as an improved security environment for travelers.
The announcement came following a bilateral meeting in Dhaka on Thursday between Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, and Sergio Gor, Special Envoy to the President of the United States. According to the Bangladeshi government, Gor informed the foreign minister of the decision via a text message shortly after the meeting.
Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Humaiun Kobir was also present during the discussions.
According to the government, the revised advisory reflects growing U.S. confidence in Bangladesh’s overall security situation and political stability. It said that over the past six months, the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has made visible progress in strengthening law and order across the country.
The government also said the decision underscores the positive momentum in the longstanding partnership between Bangladesh and the United States.
In a statement, the Government of Bangladesh described the revised travel advisory as recognition of its sustained efforts to enhance security, maintain stability, and create a conducive environment for international travel, trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.
