On 15 July, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi chaired the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states in Tianjin.
During the meeting, Wang Yi stated that in the 24 years since the SCO was founded, the organization has maintained steady and positive momentum under the strategic guidance of the leaders of its member states. The SCO has continuously expanded its areas of cooperation, enhanced its international reputation, and its strategic importance has become increasingly prominent. It has evolved into a reliable platform for member states to uphold regional stability and achieve shared development.
He further emphasized the need to carry forward the “Shanghai Spirit,” jointly safeguard security and respond to challenges, pursue mutual benefits and win-win cooperation, strengthen friendship, work together to build a better world, and jointly uphold fairness and justice.
All participants at the meeting commended China’s outstanding work and positive outcomes during its chairmanship and expressed willingness to coordinate and cooperate with China in jointly organizing the upcoming Tianjin Summit.
Following the meeting, Wang Yi and SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev attended a joint press conference. Wang Yi announced that the SCO Summit will be held in Tianjin from 31 August to 1 September. Leaders from over 20 countries and senior officials from 10 international organizations are expected to attend the summit.
