Wang Yi Attends ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Recently, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

Wang Yi stated that since the establishment of the ASEAN Plus Three cooperation mechanism, the region’s capacity to respond to crises has been continuously strengthened, economic integration has been advancing, new momentum for joint development has been created, and fruitful results have been achieved in cooperation across various sectors. As a result, East Asia has become one of the most dynamic regions in the world.

He noted that the current situation for East Asian cooperation remains sound. Development remains at the center of focus, and promoting practical cooperation is the prevailing trend. However, he acknowledged that the region still faces multiple challenges, including the abuse of tariffs by some major powers.

Looking ahead, China has proposed four suggestions for advancing the ASEAN Plus Three cooperation framework:

  1. Building an East Asia of integrated development;
  2. Building a strong and resilient East Asia;
  3. Building an innovative and vibrant East Asia; and
  4. Building an East Asia of cultural exchanges.

Wang Yi emphasized that China’s economy is progressing steadily, demonstrating strong resilience and development potential. He affirmed that China is committed to contributing new momentum and opportunities for regional common development through its own stable growth, with the goal of jointly creating a brighter future for East Asia.
