US strikes on Yemen’s Hodeida airport

Yemen’s Houthi rebel-controlled media reported that the US had carried out an attack on the country’s Hodeida airport.

A week ago, Washington announced a massive operation against the rebels.

The Houthi-controlled Al-Masirah TV called the attack on Hodeida airport an “American aggression”. The channel said three strikes targeted Hodeida airport on the Red Sea coast.

On Wednesday, US Central Command confirmed information about the “unrelenting operation” against the rebels. President Donald Trump has threatened to destroy them. Later, between Wednesday and Friday, the Iranian-backed rebels’ television channels reported the airport attack.

On March 15, the US announced a series of airstrikes in Yemen. US officials said that the strikes killed senior Houthi leaders.

The rebels’ health ministry said that 53 people were killed in Yemen that day.

The US launched airstrikes on Houthi targets after the Houthi rebels threatened to attack all Israeli ships sailing in the Red Sea.

This is the first such attack by the US since Trump returned to power. Source: Xinhua, Tehran Times.
