Principal Advisor and Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has urged to move reform activities forward with the goal of holding national elections in December.
He made this request in a meeting with two members of the Consensus Commission on Saturday. The meeting was held in the afternoon at the official residence of the Chief Advisor, Jamuna. National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz and member Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder participated in it. Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor (Consensus Building) Monir Haider was present at the time.
In the meeting, Professor Ali Riaz and Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder informed the Chairman of the Commission about the progress of the National Consensus Commission’s activities. They said that separate discussions are underway with political parties on the recommendations of various reform commissions. As of Saturday, discussions have been completed with a total of 8 parties. A meeting with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is scheduled for Thursday.
They also said that various programs have been taken to gauge public opinion on the reform process and create public awareness about it.
At the time, the commission’s president and chief advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, urged the political parties to hold discussions with the party and move forward with the overall reform process with the aim of holding national elections in December.
