A resolution, initiated by Bangladesh and cosponsored by 43 countries, proclaiming July 6 as “World Rural Development Day,” was unanimously adopted at the Plenary of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly on 06 September 2024.
Member states of the UN, international organizations, and all relevant stakeholders across the world will observe the day each year to highlight the importance of the sustainable development of rural areas and communities.
As the first UN General Assembly resolution led by Bangladesh under its new interim government, this initiative underscores the government’s dedication to addressing rural needs. It also reflects the government’s commitment to effective multilateralism and ensuring equitable access to opportunities for all in line with the SDGs, leaving no one behind.
