UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on the two arch-enemies to exercise ‘maximum restraint’ in the face of the tension that has arisen between India and Pakistan following the horrific attack in Kashmir’s Pahelgam.
Antonio Guterres gave this message at midnight on Thursday (April 24) local time. UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric confirmed the matter to the media. NDTV reports.
Stephane Dujarric said that the UN Secretary-General is ‘deeply concerned’ about the ongoing situation between the two neighboring countries. He is ‘monitoring the overall situation very closely’.
The UN Secretary-General said that as a result of several counter-measures in a very short period of time, there has been a great deal of tension between the two countries. I request the two countries to exercise maximum restraint so that the situation does not deteriorate further. We are optimistic that any issues between India and Pakistan can and should be resolved peacefully through meaningful dialogue and mutual engagement.
