The United Nations General Assembly unanimously approved the budget of the United Nations peacekeeping missions for the 2025-2026 fiscal year on June 30. The amount of money for 12 peacekeeping missions is $5.38 billion.
As the number of missions has decreased by two compared to the previous fiscal year, the budget has also decreased. Although the prices of all essential commodities have increased at a high rate. It is worth noting that this budget was passed without a vote. According to UN sources, the General Assembly took this decision on the recommendation of the Fifth Committee, which works on the administrative and budgetary issues of the United Nations.
It is worth noting that out of 61,300 peacekeepers from 117 countries in various UN missions, 5,675 are from Bangladesh.
It is also worth noting that although the UN fiscal year starts from January 1, the fiscal year of the peacekeeping missions starts from July 1.
