The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has expressed deep concern over the attack on a girls’ school in Minab, Iran, which reportedly claimed the lives of at least 175 people, according to Al Jazeera.
Türk emphasized that the investigation must be prompt, transparent, and impartial. He stressed that following the U.S.-announced investigation, perpetrators must be held accountable and victims should receive appropriate remedies.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed that the incident is under review by the American military. While preliminary findings have surfaced, officials cautioned that final conclusions have not yet been reached, and new evidence may reveal either exoneration or involvement of other parties.
Iranian Ambassador Ali Bahreini reported that 150 female students were killed in the attack, though this figure has not been independently verified by Reuters.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt reiterated that the U.S. military is investigating the matter and does not target civilians or children. The UN had previously called for an investigation, but no party has been directly accused at this stage.
