Former US President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his uncompromising stance on Greenland, declaring that the strategically located Arctic island is of vital importance to the United States and that there is “no room to retreat” on the issue.
In a message posted on social media, Trump said Greenland holds critical significance for US national interests, underscoring that he sees no alternative to maintaining Washington’s firm position. His remarks have once again stirred debate and concern across the international community.
Speaking at a press conference at the White House on Tuesday, Trump was asked how far he would be prepared to go in pursuing the acquisition of Greenland. Responding cryptically, he said, “When the time comes, everything will be known.” The statement has heightened global unease, with many interpreting it as a signal of potential escalation.
Meanwhile, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, world leaders voiced broader concerns about the shifting global order. French President Emmanuel Macron warned that the world is gradually drifting away from a rules-based international system. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney echoed similar sentiments, saying the old global order is unlikely to return.
Trump is scheduled to arrive in Davos on Wednesday, where he has indicated that several high-level meetings will focus on the Greenland issue. He has expressed confidence that the matter will ultimately be resolved in favor of the United States.

Reacting to Trump’s comments, Greenland’s Minister for Industry and Natural Resources, Naaja Nathanielsen, expressed surprise and concern. She stated firmly that the people of Greenland do not wish to become American and are determined to decide their own future.
