Former US President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States is set to build the most powerful warship in history, naming the new class of battleships after himself as the “Trump Class.” According to Trump, the vessel will be part of a special naval fleet dubbed the “Golden Fleet” and will surpass all previously built US warships in size, speed and firepower—by as much as 100 times.
In his remarks, Trump said the announcement reflects Washington’s determination to maintain US military supremacy and compete with rival powers such as Russia and China. He described the Trump Class as a major leap forward in naval warfare.
The Trump Class battleship is claimed to be the world’s first guided-missile battleship, capable of carrying nuclear and hypersonic missiles. Its primary missions would include power projection, conducting offensive strikes and providing integrated air and missile defence.
Described as a new type of large surface combatant, the Trump Class is expected to have greater destructive capability than any warship currently in service. Trump claimed the vessel would be able to strike targets at distances up to 80 times greater than previous classes of warships.
The battleship would feature a large missile vertical launch system, enabling long-range hypersonic strikes against strategic targets beyond the reach of the current US naval fleet. Depending on operational needs, it could operate independently, serve as part of a carrier strike group, or lead its own surface action group.
Trump said the next-generation warships would be equipped with hypersonic missiles and other advanced weapons, positioning them as future flagships of the US Navy. Each ship, he added, would be built entirely in the United States and displace between 30,000 and 40,000 tonnes.
He further claimed that the Trump Class would be the largest and heaviest warships ever constructed, particularly optimised for naval warfare with the heaviest armour and firepower. According to Trump, the new class would be 100 times more powerful than the historic Iowa-class battleships.
The vessels are also expected to feature cutting-edge technologies, including electric railguns, cruise missiles and the world’s most advanced laser systems. Trump said these weapons systems would be operated using artificial intelligence.
