Trump Calls Modi a ‘Friend and Great Man,’ Hints at Possible India Visit

U.S. President Donald Trump has referred to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “friend and great man,” suggesting a potential visit to India next year aimed at strengthening bilateral trade ties.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday, Trump said his discussions with Modi had “gone tremendously well.” He noted that Modi has been actively reducing India’s oil imports from Russia and that they are in regular communication regarding this issue. Trump added, “Prime Minister Modi is a great man. He is my friend. We talk, and he wants me to go there. We will decide on this.”

When asked specifically about the possibility of visiting India next year, Trump responded, “Yes, it’s possible.” Earlier, he had indicated he would not travel to India by the end of this year during the Quad Summit, but his recent remarks suggest a potential visit in the coming months.

Experts note that India-U.S. bilateral relations had slowed in recent months due to additional tariffs imposed on Indian goods. Trump’s comments indicate that there may now be an opportunity to overcome trade-related tensions and advance closer economic cooperation.
