A tourist submarine has sunk off the coast of Egypt in the Red Sea. At least six people are feared dead in the accident. Nine others were injured, the British media outlet BBC reported in a report citing local sources.
The incident occurred at around 10 am local time on Thursday, about 0.6 meters (1 km) from the coast. It is said that there were about 40 tourists on the submarine. 29 people have been rescued in the incident. Four of the injured are in serious condition. They have been admitted to a local hospital.
The BBC reported that the tourist submarine is called Sindbad. It sank near the port. The cruise ship has been operating for many years to travel to tourists in the Hurghada area. However, the cause of the accident is not yet known.
This is not the first tourist accident on the coast of Egypt’s Red Sea. Last November, a cruise ship named Sea Story sank. 11 people died in that incident. Among them was a British couple. Another 35 people were rescued. Meanwhile, the Russian embassy in Egypt said that all the tourists on the submarine were Russian.
