German Chancellor Olaf Sholz says the Russia-Ukraine war will not end until the sovereignty of Ukraine is guaranteed.
US President Donald Trump surprised allies this week and made Washington a major change in the long -standing principle of support for Ukraine. He has announced that he can start a ceasefire discussion with Russian leader Vladimir Putin soon. It is feared that Kiev may be forced to compromise.
At the Munich Security Conference, Sholz said, “Only peace will come when Ukraine’s sovereignty is guaranteed.”
“We will never support compulsory peace,” he added. We will not take any solution that will create isolation between European and US security. The only benefit will be President Putin. ‘
The German Chancellor said, “We Europeans will present our interests with confidence and unitedly in the upcoming discussion.”
Sholz made the remarks before Ukraine’s President Bholaodimir Zensky’s speech, where European leaders and policy makers were participating. Jensky said Friday that he wanted ‘security guarantee’. He discussed the Trump administration’s ceasefire initiative in a meeting with US Vice President JD Vans.
Sholz says that if peace is established, Ukraine’s supporters ‘first’ will need to strengthen the country’s armed forces to ensure that Russia will not attack again.
