Foreign Minister has called for strong international assistance in dealing with the risks of climate change and the development of small island countries. Hasan Mahmud.

He made this call on the second day of the ‘4th Small Island Developing States Conference-SIDS4’ (4th Small Island Developing States Conference-SIDS4) organized by the United Nations at St. John’s, the capital of the Caribbean island nation of Antigua and Barbuda on Tuesday afternoon local time.

In the main auditorium of the ‘American University of Antigua’ in St. John’s, Foreign Minister Hasan mentioned the role of Bangladesh as the traditional spokesperson of the less developed countries and the role of consistently loud Bangladesh in the development of the small island countriesHe made a promise.He said, serving as the President of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF), an organization of climate vulnerable countries for two terms, Bangladesh has focused on addressing the challenges of climate change, sea level rise, ocean acidification and extreme weather.

Environmentalist Foreign Minister. Hasan said there is an urgent need to bring the advanced economies with high carbon emissions under accountability commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that are harmful to the environment.

And to that end, it is important for UN members to focus on implementing climate finance commitments after 2025 and increasing climate risk adaptation capacity at the upcoming World Climate Conference COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, he said.

The foreign minister also highlighted Bangladesh’s leadership in seeking an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the responsibilities of states to combat climate change.

In the conference Dr. informed about providing scholarships to Bangladesh Marine Academy for cadets from less developed countries of Africa and Caribbean and Pacific seeds. Hasan said, Bangladesh is committed to work on regional cooperation and inter-nation capacity building in the maritime sector.

At the end of the conference, the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS) – a Renewed Declaration for Resilient Prosperity – a Renewed Declaration for Resilient Prosperity will be finalized.
