Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha Dies After More Than Three Years in Coma

Thailand’s Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, has died after remaining in a coma for more than three years, the Thai Royal Household announced on Friday. She was 47.

In an official statement, the Royal Household said the princess passed away at 7:48 p.m. on Thursday while receiving treatment at a hospital in Bangkok. Despite prolonged intensive care and advanced medical treatment, doctors were unable to improve her condition.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha fell seriously ill in December 2022 while exercising with her dogs. Medical experts later revealed that complications arising from a heart-related infection had caused severe cardiac arrhythmia, leaving her in a coma.

Widely regarded as one of the most prominent and influential members of Thailand’s royal family, Princess Bajrakitiyabha received advanced legal education and earned two master’s degrees from Cornell University in the United States.

During her career, she served at Thailand’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and later held several key positions related to law and justice in her home country.

Her death has cast a deep shadow of grief over Thailand’s royal family and the nation at large.
