Sustainable Solution to Rohingya Crisis Lies in Rakhine: Foreign Minister

Antalya, April 17 – Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman has that a sustainable and effective solution to the protracted Rohingya crisis lies in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, urging the international community to move beyond humanitarian assistance and take more proactive steps toward ensuring the safe, dignified, and voluntary repatriation of displaced Rohingyas.

He made the remarks while speaking as a panelist at a session titled “Global Refugee Protection System in the Face of Displacement Crisis” at the ongoing Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2026 in Türkiye on Friday.

Expressing deep concern over the declining level of international donor support for the Rohingya population, the Foreign Minister called for increased funding to address the crisis. He also stressed the urgent need to ensure stability and security in Rakhine State, alongside safeguarding human rights, as essential conditions for sustainable repatriation.

Dr. Rahman further noted that since assuming office, he has received a positive response from both the Government of Myanmar and the Arakan Army, indicating a potential window for renewed engagement on the issue.

Highlighting the broader perspective, he said the Rohingya crisis remains a solvable problem, provided there is coordinated global action and sustained international cooperation to address its root causes and facilitate long-term solutions.
