September 3, 2026: Russia is planning sabotage operations targeting Danish companies that provide military support to Ukraine, Denmark’s security and intelligence service, the Police Intelligence Service (PET), has warned.
According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Thursday, Danish intelligence officials said Russian intelligence activity has moved beyond the stage of merely posing a potential threat, with intelligence indicating that preparations for actual acts of sabotage are underway.
Emil Gresgholm, head of PET’s counterintelligence division, told Danish media outlets DR and Berlingske that Russian plans could target Danish businesses involved in providing military assistance to Ukraine.
He said there were indications that preparations were being made for sabotage operations aimed at disrupting the activities of such companies.
PET also warned that Russia is attempting to recruit ordinary Danish citizens through social media and online platforms to assist its intelligence activities.
According to the agency, individuals are being approached to take photographs or collect various types of information. Authorities have also found evidence that information gathered in this way could later be used in planning sabotage operations.
In response to the potential threat, Denmark is strengthening its security measures. PET is working with the country’s military intelligence service and other government authorities to identify and counter possible Russian operations.
Rasmus Anderskau, security chief at the Confederation of Danish Industry, urged businesses to remain vigilant. Companies involved in military assistance to Ukraine have been advised to take particular precautions against possible sabotage attempts and intelligence-gathering activities.
Flemming Splidsboel, a senior researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies, said the threat posed by this type of Russian activity was relatively new and represented a more sophisticated level of operations than previously seen.
Former military intelligence analyst Jakob Karsbo said the Danish authorities’ decision to issue a public warning was significant.
According to Karsbo, the warning sends a clear message to Russia that Denmark is aware of the potential sabotage threat and is treating the issue seriously.
The warning comes as Denmark, a strong supporter of Ukraine, remains increasingly focused on protecting critical infrastructure and businesses linked to European military assistance to Kyiv amid heightened security concerns across Europe.
