Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile Celebrates Community Unsung Heroes at 2025 Vocational Excellence Awards Night

Kowloon, Hong Kong — May 7, 2025 — The Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile held its annual Vocational Excellence Awards Night at the Crystal Ballroom of the Holiday Inn Golden Mile Kowloon. The event honored a diverse group of individuals from various sectors of Hong Kong, including police, medical services, fire services, immigration, security bureau, and hospital authority, for their dedication and exemplary contributions to the community.

Dignitaries from civil society, including Hong Kong government officials, community leaders, awardees, and Rotary club members, attended the evening. Their presence underscored the significance of honoring those who serve tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of Hong Kong residents.

Fifteen individuals from the Hong Kong Police Force, three from Hong Kong Medical Services, and sixteen from the Hong Kong Fire Services Department received awards across various categories. This year, the club also recognized the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s Search and Rescue Team, which was mobilized for the earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025. The team comprised four members from the Security Bureau, forty-one from the Fire Services Department, two from the Immigration Department, and four from the Hospital Authority.

Since its inception in 2000, Past President Nanu Lachman has organized the event annually. It has become a significant community celebration, honoring over 500 heroes from multiple sectors. The awards highlight the spirit of service promoted by Rotary, encouraging individuals to apply their skills for the greater good and inspire others through their actions.

Vinod Sehgal, President of the Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile, expressed appreciation for all awardees, emphasizing that their sacrifices and bravery form the foundation of Hong Kong’s resilience. He also noted that the awards serve as recognition and motivation for others to embody the values of service and compassion.

District Governor Nigel Lo further supported the event, whose participation underscored the importance of recognizing the outstanding service of Hong Kong’s community heroes. The Rotary Club reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and community service to create positive change.
