Putin to Visit China at Xi Jinping’s Invitation

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit China on May 19 for a two-day official trip at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Kremlin announced.

According to a statement released by the Kremlin, Putin will hold talks with Xi Jinping during the visit, with both leaders expected to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral strategic relations.

The Kremlin said expanding the “comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation” between Russia and China will be the central focus of the visit. The two sides are also expected to exchange views on a range of regional and global issues.

Putin’s upcoming visit comes shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump concluded his visit to Beijing, prompting many international analysts to view the trip as part of a broader geopolitical realignment and evolving diplomatic dynamics among major global powers.

Experts say Moscow-Beijing relations have become increasingly significant amid intensifying U.S.-China competition and continued Western pressure on Russia over the war in Ukraine. Against this backdrop, both countries appear determined to deepen political and economic cooperation.

In recent years, Russia and China have expanded collaboration in sectors including energy, defense, trade and technology. The two nations have also frequently aligned their positions on the international stage in response to what they describe as growing Western influence and pressure.
