Adviser to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr. Asif Nazrul has proposed increasing the recruitment of professional workers in the Maldives labor market. He made this proposal yesterday during a discussions with Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed, Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development of the Maldives, on the sidelines of the Global Labor Market Conference held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul requested the regularization of all undocumented and irregular Bangladeshi workers currently residing in the Maldives. Additionally, he proposed increasing the recruitment of doctors, engineers, nurses, teachers, and other qualified professionals from Bangladesh.
Dr. Asif Nazrul praised the educational loan facilities provided to Maldivian students for studying abroad and invited more Maldivian students to Bangladesh for higher education in medicine, engineering, agriculture, and other specialized subjects. Furthermore, he urged for initiatives to attract Bangladeshi tourists to visit the Maldives.
Maldivian Minister Dr. Ali Haidar expressed interest in recruiting more skilled workers and professionals from Bangladesh. He proposed that renowned universities of Bangladesh organize education fairs in Maldives. Among others, Dr. Abdulla Nazeer, Minister of State for Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development of the Maldives, and Md. Saiful Haque Chowdhury, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, were present at the meeting.
