President Trump Congratulates Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has extended his congratulations to Bangladesh’s newly elected Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman. In an official letter sent from the White House on Wednesday (18 February), President Trump highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral defense ties and accelerating the implementation of existing trade agreements between the two nations. The letter was released through the official X handle of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the outset of his message, President Trump wrote, “On behalf of the American people, I congratulate you on your historic election victory. I wish you every success in your new role as Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.”

Underscoring the foundation of the US–Bangladesh relationship, the President noted, “Our partnership is rooted in mutual respect and our shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region—one where strong and sovereign nations can thrive.”

President Trump expressed optimism about deepening commercial engagement, stating, “I look forward to your cooperation in advancing the implementation of our bilateral trade agreements. These initiatives will continue to benefit farmers and workers in both of our countries.”

The letter placed special emphasis on defense collaboration. The President wrote, “I am hopeful that you will take prompt steps to finalize the routine defense agreements that will ultimately allow your military to benefit from the most advanced American equipment available.”

President Trump also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ties with Bangladesh, adding, “I look forward to working with you to strengthen US–Bangladesh relations more than ever before. I have full confidence in my ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent Christensen. Together, we have enormous opportunities to make our nations more prosperous and secure.”

The letter concluded with President Trump extending his best wishes for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s future endeavors.
