A 5.3 magnitude earthquake has been felt in Pakistan amid the military conflict with India. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that the earthquake struck at 10:08 am local time on Saturday. No casualties or damage have been reported so far.
This information was revealed in a report by Pakistani media Geo News on Saturday. The epicenter of the earthquake was 230 kilometers deep in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The tremors of the earthquake were mainly felt in the capital Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa state. Tremors were also felt in various districts including Atak, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi and North Waziristan.
Geographically, Pakistan is located at a junction of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Therefore, an earthquake occurs in the country if any of these two tectonic plates slightly change their position. Earlier, in 2015, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan and Afghanistan, killing about 400 people.
