Overseas Voter Registration Extended to December 25 Ahead of National Election

Dhaka, December 2 — The registration period for overseas voters ahead of Bangladesh’s upcoming 13th National Parliament election has been extended from December 18 to December 25. The announcement was made on Monday at a press conference held at the Election Commission (EC) office in Agargaon by Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

The EC official said the extension was granted in response to requests from overseas voters. So far, 120,000 expatriates have registered.

When asked about the exclusion of journalists from postal voting, despite government employees being allowed, Ahmed regretted that journalists are not eligible to participate in postal ballots.

Bangladesh launched the ‘Postal Vote BD’ mobile app on November 18 to facilitate postal voting for expatriates, with registration beginning on November 19. Under the new schedule, overseas voters can now register through December 25.
