‘No Return for Hamas’: Israeli Minister Outlines Goal of Full Control Over Gaza

Israel has further clarified its objective of establishing full control over the Gaza Strip, with a senior government minister saying the Israeli military will continue expanding its territorial control until Hamas is completely dismantled.

The remarks were made on Wednesday during an interview with Galei Israel Radio by Eli Cohen, Israel’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.

Cohen said Israeli forces have steadily increased their control over Gaza in recent months. According to figures he cited, Israeli troops controlled 53 percent of the territory two months ago. That later rose to around 60 percent, and now stands at approximately 70 percent, he said.

The minister said Israel’s objective extends beyond achieving temporary military gains. Rather, he said, the goal is to prevent Hamas from re-establishing its political or military presence in Gaza.

“We will not allow Hamas to regain a foothold in Gaza,” Cohen said, adding that Israel is pursuing a strategic plan aimed at bringing the entire Gaza Strip under its control.

He added that military operations would continue for as long as necessary to ensure Israel’s security and further expand its control over the territory.

The ongoing war in Gaza continues to draw widespread international concern. Governments and international organizations have repeatedly expressed alarm over the deteriorating humanitarian situation, civilian casualties and the urgent need for a ceasefire, but the conflict remains unresolved.
