Guangzhou, China Chinese President Xi Jinping met on Sunday with IOC President Kirsty Coventry and IOC Honorary Lifetime President Thomas Bach during the 15th National Games in Guangzhou.
President Xi highlighted the significance of the Olympic spirit as a vital aspect of human civilization, reflecting the aspirations of people worldwide for a better world. He emphasized that China has always been a firm supporter, promoter, and practitioner of Olympic values. In recent years, China and the IOC have mutually supported each other to advance sports activities, achieving significant milestones together.
Xi stressed that China seeks to expand high-level cooperation, strengthen its sports sector, enhance the development of the Olympic Games, and contribute to global sports governance and the common welfare of humanity. He noted that the National Games represent China’s largest and most prestigious multi-sport event, showcasing not only the country’s athletic achievements but also the modernization of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area with Chinese characteristics.
Both Coventry and Bach praised China for its active promotion of Olympic values and its significant contributions to international Olympic activities. They reaffirmed the IOC’s appreciation for China’s long-term support and expressed eagerness to continue jointly advancing global Olympic development, fostering unity among nations, and promoting world peace.
