Guangdong, China International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry praised China’s sporting prowess, describing the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games as “extraordinary” and “visually stunning.” She emphasized that China is undoubtedly a major power in international sports.
The grand ceremony was held on Sunday evening at the Guangdong Olympic Sports Center, blending culture, science, technology, and sports into a spectacular showcase. Thousands of athletes of various age groups from across China are participating in the Games. Coventry highlighted the event’s special appeal, noting that it fostered a strong sense of unity and solidarity among participants.
Coventry is visiting China from November 8 to 13 with a delegation. This marks her first visit to China since becoming IOC President in June of this year.
The 15th National Games not only celebrate athletic excellence but also demonstrate China’s growing influence in global sports.
